The photo on the left is of my 23-year old boyfriend, Derick, holding his one year old niece. That smile? It’s genuine. He absolutely loves her to death. Why? She reminds him of his own one-and-a-half year old daughter, Ashton (right), who he has never been able to hold.

Derick has never been able to meet his daughter. He’s never been able to hold her. He’s never been able to kiss her and tell her how much he loves her. He’s never been able to watch her fall asleep in his arms. Ashton’s mother, who broke up with Derick after 3-months into the planned pregnancy, refuses to let Derick see his daughter. She also allowed her boyfriend of 4-months to sign Ashton’s birth certificate. Not only has she kept Ashton from Derick, but she also refused to let the father of her first daughter see his child as well. Derick has the potential to be the most loving, devoted dad I have ever encountered in my life, and after so many bad turns in life, he deserves the opportunity.

We are trying to raise at least $3,000. This money is intended to go toward pursuing visitation to Ashton, and eventually joint-custody.

Please, if you can find it in yourself to help us, it would mean the world. We are trying to raise money so that we can bring Ashton into our lives. Her father missed her first birthday without having a choice. Please help spread the word so he won’t have to confront her second birthday without seeing her beautiful face.

Families need to be together.
